Then it was time to replace the gas dampers on the tailgate of my son’s Toyota Celica.

The dampers were not able to hold the hatch open alone anymore. And they should hold the hatch + the parcel shelf with speakers installed.

New dampers were reasonably priced on Aliexpress, so there wasn’t really much to think about.

But the original dampers were mounted on a ball bolt, which is screwed into the hatch. These are pressed in at the factory, and are not intended to be dismantled. The new dampers came without the ball bolts, so I had to improvise by cutting off the top of the old dampers, so I could use the ball bolts again.

Demperene karte ikke å holde kun luken oppe lengre. Og de bør jo holde luken + hatthyllen med høytalere montert.

Nye dempere var rimelige på Aliexpress, så det var egentlig ikke så mye å tenke på.
Men de originale demperene var montert på en kulebolt, som skrus inn i luken. Disse er presset inn på fabrik, og ikke ment til å demonteres. De nye demperene kom uten kuleboltene, så jeg måtte imporvisere med å kappe i stykker toppen av de gamle demperne, så jeg kunne benytte kuleboltene igjen.
